#The100DayProject 2024

#The100DayProject, in many ways, is responsible for launching my career as an artist. I completed the challenge twice, in 2019 and 2020, painting daily and sharing on Instagram with the project community, and generating 200 small paintings. Somewhere near the end of the first 100, I finally changed my account’s handle to my own name and started admitting to family, friends and colleagues that I had been painting. The practice, experimentation, momentum, and kind encouragement that I experienced during those projects solidified my resolve to make art a professional gig.

This year, I am making a series of 100 landscape studies with the intention of pushing toward abstraction and generating a pile of source material to inspire future work. I am employing the exercises impressed upon me by so many great teachers and creating compositional sketches, notans, value studies, and then 20 iterations of the same image. I switch my palette every 4th image, mixing pigments that aren’t my go-to paint tubes. After 20 paintings, I will repeat the process with another source image…. hopefully, all the way to 100.

These are 8x8 oil paintings on Arches Oil Paper. Follow along with my progress on instagram where I’ve collected the project in story highlights.
