In preparation for presenting our project idea to the class, my kids and I spent a weekend exploring various patterns and color combinations -- the most fun I've had with markers in ages!
First the students drafted ideas on 6" grids, then transferred their designs to 12" paper.
Designs were edited as they were transferred to larger scale, and color decisions were made.
Nora H.'s square as draft 1 and draft 2.
Nora and Molly scale their designs.
June and her 12" draft
During a break in our very wintery February, we cut, primed, and painted 12" boards.
Painting in the Practical Life Room!
Eddie and Patrick lay down first coats of color.
Kendall took extreme care and painted many layers to perfect her design.
Our final class meeting, a lively discussion to decide how to display and label our squares.
